Film Screening: “The Trial of Adolf Eichmann”
To mark the 50th anniversary of the trial of Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann, the film “The Trial of Adolf Eichmann” will be shown on Wednesday, October 12, at 7:00 p.m., and again on Monday, October 24, at 7:00 p.m., in SAB 2. CHGE Faculty Book Reading Group
The CHGE is organizing a faculty book reading group. The group will meet on Wednesday, October 26, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, LNG 11, to discuss Deborah Lipstadt’s The Eichmann Trial. Copies of the book will be provided at no charge to participants beginning September 26. On Wednesday, October 12, and on Monday, October 24, at 7:00 p.m., the film “Eichmann on Trial” will be shown in SAB 2; these screenings are free and open to the public. CHGE Student Book Reading Group
The CHGE is organizing a student book reading group. Two discussions have been scheduled (come to one or both): 4:00-6:00 p.m. and 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Monday, October 17, in LNG 11, to discuss Adam Hochschild’s King Leopold's Ghost: A Story of Greed, Terror, and Heroism in Colonial Africa. Copies of the book, which chronicles the beginning of the modern human rights movement, will be provided at no charge to participants beginning September 22. Papers for Panel on Holocaust Education, Lessons and Legacies XII (Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, November 1-4, 2012)
A panel is being organized on Holocaust Education for Lessons and Legacies XII, Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, November 1-4, 2012. The focus of the panel is teaching the prewar and postwar phases of the Holocaust. We welcome papers describing curriculum, resources and perspectives for teaching in these areas in schools, in higher education or in some other educational setting. Papers will be circulated among panel members several weeks in advance of the conference so that panel members can prepare to react to and comment on each other's work during the panel meeting. The deadline for submissions is October 15, 2011.
